MOJAVE NATIONAL PARK

Mojave National Park

Mojave National Park is located in the Mojave desert and is home to some of the coolest volcanic tubes. The park contains Joshua trees and several different types of wildflowers. It is important to have a GPS with you, as it is very easy to get lost inside the park. There is no cell service inside the park and it is very easy to get stuck inside the desert sands. Make sure to bring a vehicle that has high clearance and can drive through very fine and loose sand.

Main Attractions

The volcanic tubes are the top attraction inside Mojave National Park, but are hard to get to. If you end up making it here you will climb up a mountain and then take the ladder down into one of the volcanic tubes. We went during mid-day and received a great light beam from the tube.

As you drive through the park you will see some Joshua trees in the Mojave desert. These trees seem like your in another world and are really cool to see. There is also a salt flat inside the park, but it does require a sand buggy to get there as it is very sandy and difficult to get to.

It is very important to bring lots of water and have a map with you at all times so you don't get lost in the park. The park map is not very well marked, so be aware of your surroundings. The lava tube road will be right when you see the big hill of black rock. Turn onto that dirt road and drive a few miles out. There will be a trail that leads up to the tubes. You definitely don't want to miss out on this if you happen to pass through Mojave National Park.
