Mojave National Park's Volcanic Tubes
Mojave National Park is out of this world. The plant life is incredible and the scenery is gorgeous. The park itself is located in California inside the Mojave desert. From Joshua Trees to wild flowers this place is unique.
If there is one thing you must have before you enter the park it is plenty of water for yourself and gas for your vehicle. It is important to understand that in Mojave National Park there is no cell service in many places and the park map given to you is not marked well. So plan ahead and be prepared before you go on this incredible journey.
To reach the volcanic tubes you must first have four wheel drive and a high clearance vehicle. I personally was inside a Ford Explorer and we nearly got stuck several times in the sand and on some of the rocks that are meant for high clearance vehicles. However, if you meet these requirement then you can reach the volcanic tubes. They can be found turning onto a very sandy road. The drive is about 1-3 miles out. You will arrive there once you reach the black volcanic rock. From there you hike up the mountain and then climb down into the volcanic cave to find the tube.
Pro Tip: Bring a GPS and some form of communication in case of emergencies.
